The Supreme Council of the UAE has unanimously appointed His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan – Ruler of Abu Dhabi as the new President of the United Arab Emirates. Sheikh Mohammed succeeds his brother – the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the third president of the UAE and is also the Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He has been the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi since 2004 and has also been appointed the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, since 2005.
On Saturday, May 14, the council held a meeting at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi – chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Born on March 11, 1961, Sheikh Mohammed is the third son of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the nation and the first President of the UAE.
After completing the formal education, the honourable Sheikh Mohammed joined the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst – where he trained in armour, helicopter flying, tactical flying and para-trooping. After that, he has held a number of roles in the UAE military including Officer in the Amiri Guard, Pilot in the UAE Air Force, and the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Besides that Sheikh Mohammed is known for protecting wild falcons, bustards and Arabia Oryx. He also has a deep interest in poetry thus; he regularly lends support to poetry events in the country and also attends many of them.
