Tech giant Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has opened its regional headquarters in Dubai Internet City. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, inaugurated the office. Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer of Meta was present during the inaugural ceremony.
The launch of Meta’s new office in Dubai indicates that global companies believe in Dubai’s economic growth and they are fully confident in the growth-friendly environment offered by Dubai. After the ceremony Sheikh Hamdan stated, “Dubai continues to strengthen its partnerships with major international tech companies to shape the future”.
This regional headquarter will be Meta’s new office to serve the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. More than 100 employees will be there to cater to the hundreds of millions of current company’s platform users in the region. Choosing this emirate as their base indicates Dubai’s positive reputation as a thriving global business hub and the tech companies’ confidence in the city as a base for serving the MENA region and tapping new opportunities and advancing innovation.
Sheikh Hamdan also mentioned in one of his tweets, “Consistent with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the emirate has continuously developed its integrated industry ecosystem, infrastructure and regulatory framework to support the world’s largest companies seeking to enhance their competitiveness and deliver high-quality services to some of the globe’s fastest-growing emerging markets.”
Meta plans to have a substantial impact on numerous industries through its cooperation with various governmental and private sector organizations across the MENA region. As part of its efforts to support businesses affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, the company has provided grants to more than 100 Dubai-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMBs). Meta has also established training and business resource centres, as well as a MetaBoost program to assist businesses in progressing well.
HH Sheikh Hamdan, who welcomed the launch of Meta’s new regional offices, added that the company is one of many prominent global technology firms that have benefited from Dubai’s thriving and growth-friendly environment.
